    The World of Stainless Steels: Why is Stainless Steel Stainless? Effect of chromium, the passive layer. Why Use Stainless Steels?: Corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, range of surface finishes, hygienic properties, formability, weldability, magnetic properties. Structure of Stainless Steels: Ferrite, austenite, martensite structure. How this leads to the five basic types including duplex and PH steels. Appropriate treatmentsandmechanical properties.Group Exercise.
